Infant Safety Initiative 2017

Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated©
Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter
P.O. Box 55664, Little Rock, AR 72215

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated Infant Safety Initiative

Attention Fathers and/or Expectant Fathers:

Recent research from the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) shows that a baby dies before its first birthday almost every day in Arkansas – a rate of infant mortality well above the national average.  This problem hits African American communities harder than other populations, but members of your great community are planning to do something about it.

Because Arkansas has a high infant mortality rate compared to other states, the Beta Chi Omega Alumni Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. with support from the Arkansas Department of Health and Arkansas Children’s Hospital has launched an Infant Safety Initiative for fathers of youth under the age of twelve (12) or for fathers who are expecting.

The purpose of this initiative is to increase awareness and to spread these messages in the African American community to make a difference in the rate of infant mortality.  Research has shown that effective ways to decrease infant mortality rates are to stress safe sleep positions for babies and breastfeeding.

Therefore, we strongly encourage your participation in this initiative by way of completing pre-and-post surveys along with watching a couple of videos on safe sleep positions for babies and breastfeeding.  Upon your successful completion of the surveys and videos, you will then receive a free eGift card via email.

To complete the survey, please visit https://goo.gl/forms/EEQYSbZbQGuuqYHs2.  All responses will be kept confidential and will only be shared with Arkansas Department of Health and Arkansas Children’s Hospital for Infant Safety purposes only.

The Beta Chi Omega Alumni Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. thanks you for your participation.
