Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated 2016 Year in Review
This past year has been a productive one for the Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated in the State of Arkansas where chapter members participated in hundreds of hours of community service and outreach throughout the state while supporting a multitude of projects and initiatives both fraternal and external.
“The Men of Iota here in Arkansas have experienced momentous accomplishments and achievements through strategic partnerships in the community, whether it be with governmental entities, nonprofits, area businesses, or other social service organizations similar to ours,” said Bro. 2016 MEGA KINGFEST – Arkansas’ Official Statewide King Holiday Celebration – Organized by the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission
Monday, January 18, 2016 – Members of the Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated volunteered in a neighborhood cleanup at MacArthur Park (Little Rock, Arkansas) and participated in other King Holiday activities at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Jack Stephens Center.

Leadership Retreat
Saturday, March 26, 2016 – The Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated organized a leadership retreat for its members where they discussed innovative strategies to becoming more efficient in fraternity affairs with an emphasis on Scholarship, Leadership, Brotherhood, Citizenship, and Fidelity. Attendees partake presentations on calendar management, organizational management, and other modules including a conference call with the Bro. Robert Clark, Grand Polaris of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity Incorporated.

Virtual Fundraising Campaign
Tuesday, April 5, 2016 – The Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated launch a virtual fundraising campaign to raise money for Community Service Projects such as Scholarships, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, & Other Philanthropic Activities.

Sunday, April 17, 2016 – The Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and the Delta Presents Outreach Foundation recognized Bro. Walter Washington along with other members of the Divine Nine as a Greek Legends Honoree during their 2nd Annual Shackelford-Elders Greek Legends Recognition Ceremony and Reception.

FBI Citizens’ Academy
Thursday, April 28, 2016 – On April 28, 2016, the Federal Bureau of Investigation Little Rock Field Office (LRFO) hosted the FBI Citizens’ Academy Graduation Ceremony for the spring 2016 class, where Bro. Walter Washington was a member of the graduating class.
The Citizens’ Academy is an eight-week (seven sessions and graduation) program that gives business, religious, civic, and community leaders an inside look at the FBI. The goals and objectives of the LRFO Citizens’ Academy are three-fold: 1) to increase public awareness about the FBI, its mission, and activities, and its people; 2) to provide an avenue for the FBI to hear and respond to community issues and concerns; and 3) to strengthen relationships and improve understanding between the FBI and the communities it serves.

Saturday, May 14, 2016 – Bro. Annias Tate and Bro. Tra’mond Taylor on behalf of the Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated joined the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) – Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities with other Divine Nine Fraternities to hold a statewide Infant Mortality conference to form the first chapter of BROTHERS UNITED. This community-based initiative is designed to increase public awareness and promote healthy behaviors aimed at reducing the state’s infant mortality rate. Members will focus on breastfeeding support for partners and safe sleep by holding infant safety baby events called tailgate parties for expectant fathers. They will also utilize social media to promote national breastfeeding month, infant mortality awareness, and SIDS awareness month. The goal of the initiative is to train 250 new fathers by May 2017. Webster University – Little Rock Area Campuses Spring 2016 Graduation
Sunday, May 15, 2016 – Bro. Walter Washington received his Master of Public Administration from Webster University’s George Herbert Walker School of Business and Technology. This degree is designed to provide a developmental framework for those interested in leadership and management in the public service. It examines the public and non-profit sectors of society, with an analysis of management techniques and the leadership experience used in applying these techniques to public policy decision-making. The curriculum seeks to examine in depth the nature of public servants, the tools at their disposal, and various roles in public organizations.

Voter Education Summit 2016
Wednesday, June 22, 2016 – Members of the Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated joined Longley Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas to host a Voter Education Summit where the Longley Baptist Church Men's and HYPE (Holistic Young People Excelling) Ministries in Collaboration with the Pulaski Circuit/County Clerk’s Office and the Arkansas Public Policy Center. During this summit, attendees were enlightened on the importance of civic involvement on the local, county, and state levels with emphasis on the elections and ballot issues at each of those respective levels. In addition, a voter registration and verification drive was offered with the goal to verify one's voter status and to register those who were not currently registered.

Saturday, August 27, 2016 – Members of the Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated, and members of the concerned community met for a screening and discussion of “Hidden Colors” on the campus of Philander Smith College at the Nugent Conference Center inside of the Kendall Center.

Arkansas Heart Hospital's Festival of Wines
Thursday, October 6, 2016 – In support of their mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, Bro. Bryan Wilson attended the Arkansas Heart Hospital's Festival of Wines at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas (See more at http://www.arkansasonline.com/galleries/21986/album/#9). As Arkansas' largest wine festival, it featured hundreds of wines from around the world and hors d'oeuvres from area restaurants. Proceeds went to the American Heart Association, which is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting cardiovascular diseases. The Association funds more cardiovascular research than any U.S. organization outside the government. Since 1949, they have invested more than $3.3 billion in the heart of our country. Each year, 22.5 million volunteers and donors work with the Association to create better lives by teaching, supporting and studying the needs of those at risk.

HYPE on the Street (HOTS) Community Service
Saturday, November 19, 2016 – Members of the Beta Chi Omega (Arkansas Alumni/Graduate) Chapter of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated volunteered at Longley Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas’ HYPE (Holistic Young People Excelling) Ministry’s HYPE on the Street (HOTS) Community Service where they helped the HYPE Ministry serve the homeless, Veterans, the less fortunate, the underserved, and others in need.
